The Demographic Aging Phenomenon and the Implications on the Size and Structure of the Romania’s Population

The present paper takes in consideration aspects of the impact that the aging population would have on its size and structures, and this phenomenon will be present to a large extent in Romania.
The whole world must take urgent measures to reduce the implications of accelerated aging as a result of the alarming increase in the number of people over the age of 60.
Demographic changes will affect both Romania and the states of the European Union. According to some projections related to population dynamics, in the next decades Romania will face an increase in the share of the elderly and at the same time there will be a decrease in the total population. Among the causes underlying the reduction and aging of the population are: the negative natural increase, the decrease of the fertility rate, the increase of the life expectancy and the migration of the population.
