Sabina Mihut, Benoni Lixandru, Dumitru Popescu

Abstract

According to European Welfare Quality Program, the assessment of the degree of welfare is made after twelve criteria, derived from four principles of housing and exploitation of farm animals: housing conditions, quality of food and feeding systems, animal state of health and appropriate behavior. The paper contains an analysis of the welfare of fattening pig grew for meat in an intensive system. For this purpose, at three different time intervals during the fattening were performed observations finalized by measuring parameters corresponding to the twelve criteria from Welfare Quality Program. Analysis and interpretation of these data allowed us to establish the welfare of fattening pigs grown in an intensive system.
